DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
MAIN REQUIREMENTS
When traveling internationally, it is essential to be aware of the documentation requirements needed to enter another country. Below, we list the most important documents you should have on hand:
- RG and CPF: Your personal identification documents are essential. Make sure they are in order and within their validity period.

- Valid Passport: A valid passport is essential for traveling internationally. Remember that although it is permitted to travel with an expiring passport, it is advisable to renew it within a year before the expiry date as some countries may impose restrictions if your passport expires during travel.
- Visa: Check whether your destination country requires a visa for your nationality and arrange it in advance if necessary.
- International Vaccine Certificate: Some countries require a vaccination certificate for certain diseases. Check to see if your destination requires this and be prepared to provide this documentation.
- PID – International Driving Permit: If you plan to drive abroad and your destination country requires a PID, be sure to obtain it before your trip.
- Proof of Accommodation: Have proof of accommodation on hand, such as hotel reservations, to present at immigration.
- Travel insurance: Check whether your destination country requires travel insurance and be prepared to present this documentation if necessary. For example, Europe requires travel insurance, among other requirements.
It is important to note that for trips to countries such as Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela, the Civil Identity Card (RG) issued by the Public Security Secretariats of the States or the Federal District of Brazil also is accepted as a valid identification document. Make sure your ID is up to date if you travel to these destinations.
When planning your international trip, always check the specific requirements of the destination country and be prepared with the appropriate documentation for a smooth and hassle-free immigration experience.

REQUIREMENTS FOR AUTHORIZATION FOR MINORS TO TRAVEL ABROAD
In order for a Brazilian citizen under the age of 18 to travel from Brazil abroad without the presence of both parents, Brazilian legislation requires obtaining a Minor Travel Abroad Authorization. This is a form through which parents allow the minor to travel under the following circumstances:
- In the company of only one parent.
- In the company of a person other than the parents.
- Under the care of an airline or shipping company.
It is important to highlight that even Brazilian binational minors who only have a passport of another nationality are not exempt from this requirement when they are not accompanied by both parents. The Federal Police, responsible for immigration control when leaving Brazil, prevents the departure of Brazilian minors who are not duly authorized, regardless of other nationalities or foreign passports they may have.
Here are the steps to request the Minor Travel Authorization Abroad:
How to request:
-
- Download, print and fill out, in two copies for each child. If the child is traveling with a parent or accompanied by a third party, fill out this form: AUTHORIZATION WITH COMPANION, or if you are traveling alone, fill out this form: UNACCOMPANIED AUTHORIZATION.
- It is possible to attach photographs of the child to documents, but this is not mandatory.
- Gather the following documentation
-
-
- All copies of the forms completed.
- Parents' identification documents.
- Birth certificate of the minor.
-
How to use:
- The Minor Travel Abroad Authorization form must be presented to the immigration control officer at the airport, port or border post. The Minor Travel Abroad Authorization is only valid for one trip and must be presented in two original copies.
- The authorization must be signed by both parents, even if only one of them has custody of the children. If one of the parents does not agree with the authorization, resolution of the impasse must be sought through legal means.
- It is important to note that the Authorization to Travel Abroad for a Minor is not to be confused with the Authorization to Issue a Passport for a Minor, as they are two distinct authorizations.
- The Travel Authorization for Minors Abroad is mandatory even for Brazilian minors with dual nationality, such as Brazilian and French, for example.
- The Minor Travel Abroad Authorization is valid for two years and does not imply authorization for the minor to establish permanent residence abroad, unless there is an express provision to the contrary.
Special cases:
- If the minor is not under the custody of his or her parents, the minor's legal guardian must sign the form and attach the original copy of the Guardianship Agreement.
- If one of the minor's parents is deceased, the requesting parent must sign the form and attach the original copy of the deceased parent's Death Certificate.
- If one of the parents is missing, the other parent must obtain, through court, a decision that authorizes him or her to issue, alone, the Minor Travel Abroad Authorization.
There are alternatives to the Minor Travel Abroad Authorization, such as the inclusion of the authorization in the minor's passport at the time of issuance or the issuance of a public deed authorizing the minor's travel. However, these alternatives must be considered carefully according to the specific circumstances of the trip and current legislation.
Keep in mind that French immigration authorities may also require a minor travel authorization form, so check this information if it applies to your situation.
